Mythic farming in Diablo 4 Season 14 can still burn through an evening, especially when every boss kill feels like a blank chest. After Patch 3.1.1, I found the smarter play is less about pushing harder and more about keeping your runs moving, with Diablo 4 Items only helping if you avoid wasting materials on poor-value upgrades.
Pick the Difficulty You Can Farm
Torment 10 is a sensible starting point. The testing was done there with a Charged Bolts Sorcerer that was useful, but nowhere near perfectly geared. That matters. You don't need a showcase build; you need a build that reaches the boss, kills it quickly, and gets back into the next run without drama.
Torment 12 may look better on paper, yet a slow kill wipes out the extra loot value. If each fight takes twice as long, the maths gets ugly fast. Smooth, repeatable clears usually beat heroic overpushing.
Build a Key Supply Chain
Small-key bosses, especially Zir and Urivar, are still worth running when your Greater Key stash is thin. Across the test, 100 kills from each boss produced eight Biles, with each Bile giving roughly 1.5 Superior Keys. That return isn't amazing, but it keeps the engine running.
Use this simple loop.
1. Farm Zir and Urivar for small-key materials.
2. Convert Biles into Superior Keys.
3. Save enough keys for a full boss session.
Target the Boss You Actually Need
Patch 3.1.1 makes targeted farming feel more worthwhile. Boss-specific Mythics appeared during testing, including Staff of Lam Essen from Lia. That's a big difference from blindly throwing keys into whichever encounter happens to be available.
Check the boss loot table before spending anything. Chasing a Sorcerer drop from the wrong boss is an expensive way to learn a lesson you could've avoided in thirty seconds.
Greater Bosses Give Better Odds
Greater Key encounters produced around eight Mythics across 200 tested kills, with Andariel making up much of that sample. The rate is still rough, obviously, but it was stronger than the lower-value route. Key returns also landed around 35-40%, so some runs help fund the next batch.
Here's the practical comparison from those runs.
| Activity | Best Use | Mythic Value | | Small-key bosses | Farm Biles and materials | Indirect | | Greater bosses | Spend Superior Keys | Strongest tested route | | Nemesis Layers | Use spare resources | Unreliable |
Leave the Flashy Rewards Alone
Mythic Charms look tempting, but they currently don't justify destroying real Mythic gear. Their stats cap out, and they don't appear to outperform ordinary charm versions. Keep those Mythics for equipment, masterworking, or future recipes instead.
Nemesis Layers and Mythic Tributes are similar traps for focused farmers. Some players will get lucky, sure. The tested Layers produced no Mythics, while Tribute results looked inconsistent. Direct boss kills give you a clearer plan.
During Gift of the Tree, run Whispers alongside your normal route. Extra caches are useful, and the activity fits neatly between boss attempts. Don't rebuild your entire farming schedule around the event; just collect the bonus while you're already moving through Sanctuary.
Keep your difficulty comfortable, stockpile keys before committing to a long session, and aim each boss at a specific item. If you'd rather fill a missing slot quickly, buy cheap D4 items only after checking whether the purchase actually saves more time than another efficient boss rotation.
